App Review : Fuze Meeting HD for iPad

Apple is making its way, slowly but surely, into the world of business.  There are a bevy of business applications for the iPad, be they finance apps, banking apps, productivity apps, or other.  That said, some still struggle to see how the iPad is a great tool for business.

One service trying to change this is Fuze Box which attempts to make the iPad more business friendly with a new app, Fuze Meeting HD.

Fuze Meeting HD, a free audio conferencing app for the iPad (note: the app is free, you’ll need an account, about $30 per month to host meetings), is the latest offering from a company that offers similar mobile apps for iPhone, Android, and BlackBerry.

Fuze Meeting HD uses both audio and visual functions for one’s conferencing needs.

With the app, one can participate in meetings, host them, using your iPad microphone to tune into audio, or call into a Fuze conference number, both over VoiP.

As with most conferencing systems, logging-in is simple, with meeting times, sign in information, host names and more, displayed by the app.

As a host, one can invite others to a conference, in addition to adding items loaded into your online Fuze library, locally stored items, or items uploaded to Dropbox, for others to view.

Once the content is loaded, pinching and zooming is available, as is a faux red laser pointer option to attract viewers attention to an item.

Some of the other really neat things about this app include:

  • Managing attendees: muting all lines
  • Chat networks functionality: AIM, Yahoo Messenger, Windows Live Messenger, Google Talk, and Fuze chat.
  • Slide-out side bar also gives you access to your full Fuze meeting schedule and to the application Settings.

The app, overall is tremendous, but somethings did stand out when I began using it.  First, the settings and tools are not intuitive initially, but once I overcame finding out more about them, their location and there features, the app became much easier to use.  Second, make sure your WiFi or 3G connection is strong.  It makes for a better meeting, and while no fault of the app itself, is certainly something to consider when using it.  Finally, until the iPad has multitasking features, you’ll have to temporarily leave a meeting to add files for others to view, be they from Dropbox, or other.

Fuze Meeting HD for iPad is a great addition to one’s iPad if you use it in any business setting.  As with most apps, subsequent updates will make the app even better, as will the addition of multitasking to the iPad.

This is really nice article to read about iPad. This is true that lots of people think that iPad is not enough device to use in business work. Because after using iPad you should need to use PC for some work. So I personally think that Apple need more time to replace the Notebook or Laptop for business use.

I have a small development company and we use this product. I used WebEx when I worked in the Corp world but now now that I am paying for it I elected something less expensive. Not cheaper. There is nothing cheap about this product. It has all of the features of the big boys at 1/4 of their cost.

    Fuze, 9.95 a month
    WebEx 49.95 per month

Yes, WebEx allows many more participants but for 9.95 i get 50 participants which is sufficient for me.
