Apple rumored to introduce new ‘AirPlay Direct’ technology at September event

Apple Airplay

Apple is expected to announce a new version of its AirPlay content sync solution next month, enabling users to stream music without needing WiFi connectivity.

According to Telegraph, the new ‘AirPlay Direct’ system for music streaming will be announced during the iPhone 5 launch event on believed to be scheduled for September 12.

AirPlay Direct, according to reports, would allow iPhone, iPod or iPad users to wirelessly send music to compatible speakers or stereos without requiring a WiFi network.

The technology underpinning AirPlay Direct could work similarly to existing Bluetooth-based systems, such as those seen on Android and Windows Phone devices.

AirPlay Direct could be part of Apple’s larger plans of moving to a smaller connector in the new iPhone.

The move would allow Apple to save space in the body of its mobile devices, while improving AirPlay would mean that content could be streamed to compatible accessories without needing a dock.
