Apple’s App Store now features more than 250,000 apps.

My, my, how things have changed.  According to 148Apps.biz, the US Apple App Store now has more than 250,000 apps, occurring 2 years and 49 days since the launch of the App Store itself.

As of the writing of this story the actual count is 252,804.  When one dives deeper into the numbers the numbers become even more incredible, with developers having uploaded 323.7 apps every day.

The total number of apps seen in the US App Store?  302,663, with 49,767 no longer active.

The total number of app publishers in the US App Store? 50,606, submitting 626 apps per day this month alone.

The most popular app categories?

  1. Books (43809 active)
  2. Games (36719 active)
  3. Entertainment (28771 active)
  4. Education (19603 active)
  5. Lifestyle (16023 active)

Further, a recent report shows iOS device owners are more willing to pay for apps.  64% of Android apps are free while only 30% are free on Apple devices, meaning 36% of Android apps are paid, and 70% of iOS apps are paid. How does that break out?

  • Current Average App Price: $2.91
  • Current Average Game Price: $1.26
  • Current Average Overall Price: $2.67

The growing number of apps show that the economy of the App Store is going strong, but it makes searching for the best apps increasingly difficult.  While using the App Store to download apps is light years ahead of anything Android owners have at their disposal, finding new apps still can be quite the arduous task.  Never the less, kudos to Apple and its developers for reaching such an incredible milestone and creating so many great apps for its devices.

What methods do you use for finding new and good apps for your iOS devices?
