Review : Pocket Farm HD for iPad

Gaming on the iPad can be a wonderful experience given the brilliance of the iPad’s screen and of course, the quality of the game one plays.  I am not one that enjoys gaming as much as I used to, age does that to most I suspect, but I am always game (pun intended) to try new games for the iPad when new titles are released.  To wit, the release of Pocket Farm HD ($2.99), prompted me to download the game from iTunes and add it to my iPad.

Before I begin, let me say this about games that involve farming, specifically FarmVille on Facebook and now the iPhone.  I loathe FarmVille and prayed with all my might that Pocket Farm HD would be the antithesis of that which I despise.  Thankfully for me, it is. (more…)

mSpot Movie Rentals Arrive on iPad

Movie and television watching on the iPad is a grand experience be it at one’s home or when traveling.  Luckily, several app options exist for iPad owners who are fans of film and television.  Netflix, one of my favorite apps, Hulu Plus, a free app with $120 per year subscription price, and now mSpot.

If Netflix, Hulu Plus, renting/purchasing movies from iTunes, or adding your own digital copies of media to your iPad seem unappealing to you, then the new iPad-optimized version of the free mSpot movie streaming app could just be the thing you have been dreaming of. (more…)

Microsoft Solicits iPad Owners’ Input via Facebook

Microsoft does not have a tablet of its own or one that runs Windows 7, despite indications earlier this year that it may have one, if not both.

How does Microsoft aim to address the success of Apple’s iPad?  The same way any right thinking company would address the success of a competitor.  Put out a request on Facebook for iPad owners who want to be studied for how they use their iPad.

Microsoft’s User Research seeks to conduct two-hour focus groups on their campus from July 16-July 21.  At these focus groups, Microsoft will ask iPad owners about their use of the iPad. (more…)

iPad’s Big Mac Attack Slowed

New research has been released regarding Mac, iPod and iPad sales for April and May from Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster.

Munster indicates Apple continues to realize strong Mac sales, ahead of expectations from analysts, with little cannibalization by the iPad.  However, iPod sales have been disappointing to say the least.  Sales of the iPod are underperforming compared to Wall Street expectations.  The news isn’t completely dour though, with sales improving since the release of a similar report nearly a month and a half ago. iPad Game for Gaming Domination

Are portable gaming devices such as the PSP and offerings from Nintendo doomed thanks to the iPad and future advancements in smartphone and tablet computing technology?

According to an analysis of the Apple iPad as well as other devices in regard to how people are using them from Resolve Market Research Company, roughly 38% of iPad owners indicate they would not buy a portable gaming device now that they are owners of the iPad.  Of those polled, only e-readers (49%) faired worse than portable gaming devices in terms of what iPad owners plan not to buy now that they have an iPad. Yahoo Says, “Yahoo!,” to iPad Research

A beneficiary of the iPad?  Oddly enough, Yahoo.  Since the release of the iPad, Yahoo reports a sevenfold increase in visits to its site from owners of the iPad.

Initially those visiting Yahoo from the iPad more often than not male, however that number has begun to shift with more women accessing Yahoo from the iPad in recent weeks.

According to research conducted by Yahoo, early adopters of the iPad who accessed Yahoo content in May were mostly male and affluent. That trend has started to reverse with more women accessing Yahoo from the iPad. (more…)
