How To : Print from iPad

The last real update to iOS was supposed to bring the ability to print from the iPad, which it did, but only to a handful of “compatible” printers, and let’s face it, most of us don’t have one of those. So once again anyone who wanted to print from the device had to find a third-party app to allow it to do so, and even these were workarounds. I’ve recently received a few emails asking for recommendations for apps that allow you to print from the iPad, but they are not usually ideal, can be expensive, and are not just simply, “press print”, as it should be.

Review : EyeTV HD

One thing that is missing from my iMac is a TV input. I’m not sure why it was left off, but I really think it was an oversight. The screen size would be great for a secondary TV or to re-size a window to watch while I work. Add to this that my iPad is perfect for viewing TV shows on the go, or when someone else is watching TV and I want to watch something different, and I’m confused by the failure to add this feature. Perhaps not, iTunes DOES sell TV shows. Maybe it’s about the money, after all money talks!  There are options though. But even if you buy a TV connection kit for your Mac, it’s not always easy getting these shows on the iPad? So what to do?!

Now there is EyeTV HD. (more…)

Tango Remote Control Music Player HD

Let’s say you are having friends over. You want to listen to music in the living room where you are gathering. However your computer is in a different room and is not connected to the surround sound system in the living room in any way. What to do?

Simple, take your iPod touch, iPhone, or iPad, plug it into the audio inputs using the headphone jack, and you’re done. Easy. Tons of people do this and it’s not a new idea by any means.

But what if you want to play “DJ”, what if a song comes on you don’t want, or someone requests a certain track? I suppose you could get up and walk across the room to change it….

Or

If you had both an iPhone and an iPad, and installed Tango Remote Control Music Player HD on both, you could control the others music selection using your WiFi connection. (more…)

How to Run Flash on the iPad

Are you upset by the iPad’s lack of Flash? Do you long for the day when Apple CEO Steve Jobs caves and allows Flash 10.1 to run on the iPad? Hate to break it to you, but that isn’t going to happen. Luckily I can break it to you that through a jailbreak you can add a little “Flash” to your iPad.

How so? Frash. A plug-in that currently doesn’t allow video playback (supposedly forthcoming), but does allow one to play games and experience other animations now. How do you get in on the action? Here you go… (more…)

How to Read non-ePub Books With iBooks

We’ve covered how to print using the iPad and how to add personal videos to the iPad, but what about those iPad users who enjoy a good e-book? Certainly Apple iBooks is a grand e-reader app thanks to a wonderful design, 30,000 free e-books due to a partnership with Gutenberg.org, and an ever expanding selection of e-book titles available for purchase. There is a downside to using iBooks, however. The app only allows ePub formatted titles to be read through the app, with formats such as; LIT, MOBI, PDB, HTML, RTF and others, not allowed.

That said, how does one convert non-epub titles and documents into a format that is compatible with iBooks? The first step in converting your e-book titles into the ePub format, requires one to download and install Calibre to your computer. Calibre is a free, open source e-book library management application which allows one to manage one’s entire e-books collection and convert many different non-epub titles and documents into an iBooks compatible format. How to Add Personal Videos to an iPad

So you may not wish to transfer personal video from the format pictured at left to your iPad (or maybe you do and will find this post of little assistance), but many would like to add their personal cinematic creations to the iPad. Your motivation could be driven by having a portable new toy to cure feelings of nostalgia as they arise or from a narcissistic need to notify everyone of the recent news concerning your nuclear family. Regardless of the reason, transferring one’s personal videos is something that can be accomplished, but it isn’t as straightforward as most may like.

Presently, many take videos using a Flip camera, or one’s video recording capable smartphone. Unlike the ease of use featured by most Apple products, transferring videos to the iPad can be relatively difficult. (more…)

How to Print from the iPad

The iPad – more than an iPhone, less than a laptop, grand nonetheless.  When traveling, the MacBook Pro stays at home due to the iPad’s tremendous ability to travel and prove an ample substitute for many of the things a MacBook handles with ease.

With the iPad, one can use Pages, compose notes, load and store pictures, and much more.  That said, an issue arises when one attempts printing that which one has created on the iPad.  At the point when printing a document or picture becomes necessary, how is such a task accomplished?  Unfortunately printing options for the iPad are scarce, but solutions exist nonetheless. How to Extend iPad Battery Life

You are the proud owner of an iPad.  Congratulations on being the envy or laughing stock of your friends as you hold the device that seems to polarize the planet.  Speaking of polarization, now that you have an iPad, you may wonder how one can squeeze every ounce out of the battery life out of your “magical and revolutionary product,” acquired at an “unbelievable price.”

Apple claims that “To maximize battery life, Apple engineers took the same lithium-polymer battery technology they developed for Mac notebook computers and applied it to the iPad. As a result, you can use iPad for up to 10 hours while surfing the web on Wi-Fi, watching videos, or listening to music.”  Not true.  By taking a few simple steps, battery life can be extended well beyond that which Apple claims is possible.  Here’s how: (more…)

iPad Gets Down to Business

The Apple iPad is (potential understatement warning) quite the success.  To illustrate the iPad’s success, international launch day has arrived bringing with it much excitement worldwide, the device has sold over 1 million units, and an iPad Google search generates 128,000,000 results.

Apple’s creation of the iPad has launched an entirely new way to consume media, be it combing one’s Facebook news feed, watching YouTube videos, following Twitter feeds, the reading of blogs, and more.  Take note, we are in the midst of a paradigm shift in the way media is consumed. (more…)
