Review : iKlip for iPad

I’ve had the pleasure of reviewing many iPad and iPhone accessories that fit in the field of music. From the iRig, to the Guitar Sidekick, and now the iKlip. Each serves a tremendous purpose in providing ways to utilize the ever expanding number of apps for guitar players and musicians.

The iKlip by IK Multimedia ($39.99) is an iPad accessory that is for any musician who has an iPad. It can be used for singers reading lyrics, traditional music reading in an orchestra, guitar tab reading, and more.  The possibilities are endless for what musicians might use it for.

What is it?  It’s a simple clip that attaches to a mic stand and holds the iPad. Simple as that. (more…)

Review : AluPen, An iPad Stylus

Many people think the iPad is useless. Many think it’s “magical”. Some think it’s great for consumption, while others think it can be used for creation. People think it’s fine to use your fingers for writing, while others wish for a stylus. It’s these differences that allow for the device to succeed, and for third party designers to swoop in and create products that others find useful when used with the device.

One such product is the stylus, as I mentioned.

I’ve tried a few different styles and the newest one, the Just Mobile AluPen ($24.95) is by far my favorite.

It’s thick. It’s sturdy. It’s durable. It works. (more…)

Review : SMK-Link PadDock 10 for iPad

Since the iPad was released I’ve come across many stands and docks…from the minimal to the useful, the sturdy yet boring, to poor quality yet full of features. I’ve seen people who have made their own out of old Mac products, or out of wood. Recently I was given the opportunity to use the PadDock 10, which takes a page from every one of the previous mentioned.

The dock takes the form of a mini iMac, where the iPad is the screen, the silver band at the bottom is the speaker, and allows users to charge, sync, and use the iPad at almost any angle or degree needed. (more…)

Review : LightBoard iPad Case

The LightBoard iPad Case by Griffin Technology ($39.99) is something that when I first saw it I knew right away I had to review it. I saw it and said, “my kids will love this!”. It takes the idea of a shatter-resistant polycarbonate case for the iPad, combines it with a screen protector, adds a thick guard around the outside of the device with an easel clip at the top to hold tracing paper, and a free app from the App Store (LightBoard Trace) to go along with it. Review : Boonbag, the iPad couch companion

Click for larger view

There are lots of iPad stands and holders out there. Most of them are doing a good job holding your iPad in normal situations, but are no real help when using the iPad lounging on a sofa or lying in bed.

I know what I’m talking about, because my couch is where I’m using my iPad most of the time. I like to surf, read my news feeds or play games while relaxing on the sofa. But it can be pretty exhausting holding the iPad in place without getting muscle cramps after a while. (more…)

Review : CyberAcoustics Leather iPad Cover / Case

In the short time since the launch of the iPad many cases have presented themselves as worthy contenders of protecting Apple’s magical device.  Those of us at The Apple iPad Fan have reviewed many of the cases, covers, sleeves, ect.  Some cases are not so good, some are good, and a precious few are great.
