Following the release of iOS 6 yesterday, some users expressed voiced their displeasure with Apple’s new Maps app, in terms of the information it provided and the speed of the cloud-based app.
Responding to the criticism, Trudy Miller, an Apple spokesperson, released a statement on the issue to AllThingsD:
“Customers around the world are upgrading to iOS 6 with over 200 new features including Apple Maps, our first map service. We are excited to offer this service with innovative new features like Flyover, turn by turn navigation, and Siri integration. We launched this new map service knowing it is a major initiative and that we are just getting started with it. Maps is a cloud-based solution and the more people use it, the better it will get. We appreciate all of the customer feedback and are working hard to make the customer experience even better.”
Personally I like the new design of the Maps app, but have found it to be a little off when giving directions or finding my location, so there is some need for improvement. I would also like to see some sort of “street view” embedded in the application, though flyover is pretty neat.
That said, I don’t require the use of a map when traveling despite being a heavy commuter.
What do you think of Apple’s Maps App? Complete debacle, or give it some time to get better?
