Review : Brenthaven 5-in-1 iPad Case

It’s amazing sometimes how much hype comes from the idea of a certain product, before it’s even released. It’s even more amazing when it’s an accessory such as  Brenthaven 5-in-1 Case ($59.95). Thankfully it deserved most of it too.

The Brenthaven 5-in-1 Case is exactly what the name suggests. It’s a case that gives users many options for use with the iPad. Let’s take a look at each of the 5 and see what they are for, and how they work.

1. Two-sided Protection:  The case provides great protection for the iPad, not just the back of the device but also the front when closed.  It’s a hardshell case and will protect very well in a variety of situations. The only problems I had with it was installation proved a tad difficult. Mainly the fact that it’s a very snug fit, but once installed, this is a good thing.

2. Horizontal/Landscape Prop-up: If you’re into watching movies and videos on the iPad then this ability will be very useful to you. By using both the front and back case pieces you can prop up the iPad for easy viewing in landscape view.

3. Easy Grip Handle: This is kind of great actually. The back of the case has a small loop that your hand slides into allowing you to hold it out, up, or just in front of you without fear of dropping or slipping.  Perfect for simply reading or browsing, but also great in a meeting.  Just bring up an app, image, or something you want to hold up as an additional visual aide to your presentation, and assuming it’s a small audience, it would come in handy to have a strap to hold the iPad against your hand.

4. Keying Stand:  This is the one “way” that just didn’t do it for me.  Does it work? Sure, but the fact that I have the entire other side of the case sticking up from behind the iPad turns me off to using it.  It could have been better implemented with two tiny little kickstands on the left and right bottom sides.  That said, it does work, and is sturdy enough and on enough of an angle to allow one to key effortlessly on the iPad.  It is PERFECT for use on a desktop or table.  On the couch, in your lap, not so much.

5.  Movie Strap for Car: This is an added bonus, and one most people might not think of.  For those of you who don’t have a DVD player in the car, this could come in handy. Use the included strap to attach the iPad to the back of the seat headrest, and allow those in the back to watch a movie while on the go. Interesting addition I have to say!

There you have it. The Brenthaven 5-in-1 Case. It’s a pretty impressive case, safely protects the iPad, gives users many different options, and will satisfy many of the power-users of the device. It has a few tiny issues at first (like it can be very hard to put on), but once you are using it, it’s very useful, and provides interesting ways to use the iPad all in a single case, and comes with an amazing lifetime guarantee!  Check it out!

This has turned out to be one of the best cases for me on the road, especially with the kids in the back seat, able to watch their movies. Very utilitarian!

I have to say it is nice to read an honest review! When I bought my iPad a couple of months ago I had so many issues finding a case for it that was nice to look at and protected it properly at the same time. All of the options around seemed to be plain black with loads of padding or attractive with not enough padding to protect it properly. However, after weeks of moaning about it my sister recommended I go to http://www.oliepops.com where I got a gorgeous floral embroidered one for just £24.99. The do fun coloured plain ones as well if you’re not a flowery person and offer free delivery. The website was really easy to use as I could pay via Paypal and I received it the next day. They are currently offering 15% off everything if you use the promotional code “Issy”. I have to admit, since finding this out I have had another online shopping spree and bought myself a handbag organiser and camera case!

I agree, the slit is not a problem at all.

I just got my 5-in-1 iPad case in the mail, it’s everything I hoped it would be! Another quality Brenthaven product, I was a little concerned about the slit in the top cover but it is not a problem at all, this case still provides excellent protection!

Great case! I wonder how much it costs. Most of all I like the idea of using it as a movie strap for a car. I haven’t seen anything like that before.
