Review : Elements for iPad/Dropbox
Recently I decided to start using Dropbox as my cloud storage service. I concluded it was a better option to Google Docs based on the use of iPad and iPhone apps, the ease of a simple sync folder, and the fact that when using it with iPad I can open files directly into apps they are intended. The only issues I had when using it with iPad was getting files into the Dropbox, but using the email to Dropbox option of Habilis, I can create an iWork-Pages file on the computer and save it to Dropbox, open it on iPad and into Pages, make changes, then mail it back to Dropbox from the iPad. Not the best solution, but a very workable one in my opinion. But even so, what if you just want to make a simple note or text file?
Using the app Elements ($4.99) you won’t have the need to download or upload or email the file to your Dropbox. Elements allows users to create a simple text file that is placed automatically in a Dropbox folder. Using the Elements app users can open and edit the file without having to download it and upload it each time, making it extremely useful for quick documents and thoughts. It essentially makes your Dropbox folder a pretty nice text editor for the iPad or iPhone.
If you are a user who has found yourself using the standard notes app with iPad then you will find Elements much better, as it stores the files in your Dropbox account and therefore you have access to them on any computer, iPad, or iPhone Dropbox is installed on or via their website. Also, with Elements you can change the font style, size, or color, as well as the background of the text document. Users are given a few key pieces of information, such as word, character, or line counts, as well as spell check and sending the file to any email address.
Elements is a simple yet effective way to manage everyday text files using Dropbox, and since it auto-saves as you go, you never have to worry about losing what you’ve been working on. To make the app even more appealing, it is universal, and therefore works on your iPad, iPod Touch, or iPhone.
