Review : Melvin Says There’s Monsters! for iPad

The iPad is a tremendous way to consume media, whether one is watching movies, television programs, browsing the internet or reading books, anyone can find something to explore when using an iPad.

Capitalizing on the abilities of the iPad as a media consumption monster, Out to Play Interactive has released an incredible interactive digital book. Melvin Says There’s Monsters!, created by award winning children’s animator Brendan Gallagher, is a true delight that children and adults alike, will enjoy to no end.

In Melvin Says There’s Monsters!, an odd child, Melvin, reveals an even more odd secret to other children gathered in the schoolyard. Without giving away too much detail of this great story and amazingly fun experience, Melvin, informs his peers that monsters lurk here and there ready to gobble them up at anytime! Is Melvin telling the truth? I will abstain from answering, leaving the ending to an incredible tale to the interactive story itself.

Some of the grand features of this interactive story include:

- Beautiful, fully animated, hand illustrated pages.
- Entertaining narration and supreme background music.
- The ability to swipe to turn pages, with Auto-Page turning and read-along controls.
- Drop down thumbnail navigation

I truly enjoyed my time spent with Melvin Says There’s Monsters! Moreover, all I have exposed the story to have been both fascinated by and smitten with it. Melvin Says There’s Monsters! ($2.99 for the full version, free for the “Lite” version), featuring animated pages, brilliant illustrations, inventive character voices and a fantastic musical score, is what an illustrated book on the iPad should look like and is a must have for anyone who enjoys a good story, be you young or old.

I would say most definitely, but that is my opinion. How old your children are and how skittish they are is something you would know far more about than I. The book is incredible and so fun for those of all ages. If you want to test it, try out the “Lite” version and if you have no issues, certainly upgrade to the paid version.

Thanks for reading and your question!

Hi, based on your review I'd like to buy this, but I'm a little worried that my young kids will be scared of monsters in their closet. Am I just being silly?
