Review : Boonbag, the iPad couch companion

There are lots of iPad stands and holders out there. Most of them are doing a good job holding your iPad in normal situations, but are no real help when using the iPad lounging on a sofa or lying in bed.

I know what I’m talking about, because my couch is where I’m using my iPad most of the time. I like to surf, read my news feeds or play games while relaxing on the sofa. But it can be pretty exhausting holding the iPad in place without getting muscle cramps after a while.

And that’s where a new product promises to help out – the boonbag. Here’s what the designers had in mind:

“Holding the iPad, regardless of one’s sitting or lying position, caused us more effort than joy in the long term. Returning our beloved iPads was out of the question, so a solution for our problem had to be found.”

And they came up with a very clever solution. The boonbag adapts to almost any sitting or lying position by using a soft and variable bag. You can think of it as a chair cushion for your iPad.

The iPad is fixed to the bag using a strip of “nano velcro”, which can be removed without leaving any residue. This is a very interesting concept which I have not seen before. I should note that the velcro gets a little dusty over time, but it’s very easy to clean it with warm water.

The boonbag is made in Germany and of high quality – hence the price of €59 (around $80). It’s not limited to the iPad, you can also use it with any other tablet device such as your Kindle.

Conclusion

I tested the boonbag over the period of one week and it really lives up to its promise, it looks good and is easy to use. The only downside is the price, which is slightly higher than most other iPad holders. But you get a piece of well crafted quality, so it’s definitely worth the money.
