Review : Spigen SGP Neo Hybrid EX Case for iPhone 5

I have to admit right off the bat, I’m not a huge fan of the iPhone “bumpers”. The idea for the bumpers always feels born out of a need to make the reception better more so than protect the device itself. However, with the iPhone 5 I haven’t had any reception issues so the idea of the bumper makes even less sense to me. That said, the Spigen SGP Neo Hybrid EX with Dual Layer Anti-Shock just may change my mind.

Again I am not a huge fan of bumpers, but I know there are many who love them. So I wanted to dive into this review with a clear mind and really give this case a true test. I found installing the Neo Hybrid EX a breeze, and love that it has a dual layer of anti-shock that wraps around the device. My only concerns were with the back of my iPhone, but since the case/bumper also comes with a front and back film to install on the iPhone to prevent scratches and scuffs that problem was solved. The inclusion of these is very welcomed, and a nice addition. I was also happy to find that the way the bumper is designed, when sitting on a flat surface the screen or back panel never touch the actual surface…the bumper has a outer lip that keeps it raised just enough. Perfect!

The bumper itself has a polycarbonate outer frame that then has a silicone layer around the inside as well. These two items together give it the protection and anti-shock I mentioned. The way the bumper is designed allows easy access to all buttons and ports, while maintaining a very slim and light feel. I have to say, I was very impressed with the form-fitting of the bumper and the fact that it didn’t add as much bulk to the device as I had originally assumed.

As I said, the Neo Hybrid EX also comes with a screen protector and back panel film for protecting both sides of the iPhone. It also contains a microfiber cloth for cleaning as well as a set of 3 Home Button stickers…in black, white, and an orange-ish color. Personally, I’m loving the look of the snow white and silver bumper, with my black iPhone and a white home button sticker. It just screams Stormtrooper to me…and that’s a good thing! If you like Star Wars anyways.

In the end, I am not sure if I’m a bumper convert…but I have to admit I really like this one. If you’re a bumper fan, or just looking for something a little bit different, yet stylish and protection-driven, be sure to check out the Neo Hybrid EX. It comes in a variety of colors and is priced $27.99 – $31.99 at the cretouch store.
