Learning a second language is never easy and often it’s not fun. While adults have a more difficult time with acquiring another language, children’s brains are able to grasp new language more easily.

Recognizing this, We Can Speak Chinese created an app that they claim makes it not only simple for kids to learn another language, but just as importantly, makes it fun.

The company’s app – 12 Animals of Chinese Year – for iPad claims that it is easy to learn to Chinese.

How do they propose to do it?  By helping kids to speak, listen and reading Chinese words of animals with simple, efficient, teaching methods.

So how does the app work? Frankly, not well. The design is not intuitive, the graphics are are ok at best, and there is very little to the app. The price ($1.99) makes the lack of features even more glaring when similar, free, apps exist in the app store.

Simply put, 12 Animals of Chinese Year is an app that does little and costs a lot. If you have the extra income to spare, pick it up. If not, consider other language learning options.
