If you’re like me, you’ve lived in roughly the same area your entire life and feel like you still know very little about where you call home. But if you take a little bit of time, and have the desire, you can find new places and separate the good from the bad.

To help nudge you in the right discovery direction, an iPhone and iPad app, Facearound, has been cleverly designed to help you discover the best local place be they near your home or when you’re traveling.

Facearound is one of the more interesting and extremely useful apps that deftly combine the benefits of navigation and social networking, allowing you to find a place and tell people about it, or even be told about it by someone else.

To get started with Facearound, launch the app and integrate it with your Facebook account.

Once you’re in, the app is super simple to use. Facearound immediately identifies your location and presents it in the form of a map of the area, a dot in the center representing you. From here you can perform a search of anything you can think of and the app will locate the nearest search results and display it on the map.

If you want to eat, type in the food style you’re craving and it will show you where to get it, if you want to buy a new gadget, it will show you where all the nearest electronics store is, and so on.  In addition, it can also let you know when certain events will be taking place or what kind of deals you can get.

Facebook integration comes into play with your friends able to send you recommendations, which you can sort alphabetically or by where the best deal is offered. In return you can also help them out as well as add reviews and ratings.

Maps can be viewed in standard, satellite or birds-eye view, but do not be fooled, the app offers no directions to get you where you want to go. This is one of the more glaring omissions of Facearound.

Another issue, for some, will be the app’s Facebook integration. If you’re a big Facebook person, you’ll really enjoy Facearound. If you don’t, Facearound may not be for you.

That said, Facearound is a helpful app that can really aid you in discovering the best spots in and around wherever you are at any given time.
