Review : Madagascar – Preschool – Surf n’ Slide
DreamWorks Animation and JumpStart team up for a great interactive game for preschoolers that uses characters based on Madagascar movies to help young children learn numbers, letters, colors, shapes, animals, and more.
The game features young versions of movie favorites, Alex, Marty, Gloria, and Melman, and each slips and slides as they surf down swirling slides to learn different skills along the way. There are 4 Madagascar themed levels, a sticker book for kids to keep track of accomplishments, no stop and start play, and easy to use controls.
Players start by choosing their character and pick their surfboard, snowboard, magic carpet, or turtle to ride. They slide down collecting stars and avoiding the obstacles in the way by titling the iPad, or by using the slider. This is a great addition as some kids might find one or the other methods a little difficult, so I was very happy to see two ways to control the character in this portion included. As they slide they will encounter balloon characters that will challenge them in learning games…as they complete challenges they earn stickers for their sticker book.
The game is really designed for preschoolers. There are no confusing menus or navigations, no ads, no links to social networks, and does a pretty good job of making sure kids stay where they’re supposed, within the app itself.
My kids are a little old for the lessons of the game itself, but that didn’t stop them from wanting to play it. They enjoyed the tilting and sliding aspect of the game, trying to navigate their character through the water slides. The challenges, as I said, were a little easy for them, but for preschoolers they are right where they should be, and besides, I never pass up the chance to have them practice these type of skills.
If you’re looking for a fun game that will challenge your preschooler with different skills, such as numbers, letters, colors, and more…all with the accompaniment of a recognizable theme, Madagascar – Preschool – Surf n’ Slide is worth taking a look at.
