Rumor : Next Apple iPad to feature two cameras

Despite the first version of the iPad having just launched a little over 6 months ago, ideas about what the next iPad may or may not have are already floating about.  The most recent rumor to surface with respect to the next generation iPad has the device arriving with two cameras, one 5 mega pixel camera and another, a VGA camera on the front of the device, more than likely for FaceTime calls.

Many have speculated that the next iPad will feature a camera, but two cameras?  The evidence of a two-camera iPad has come from an investment firm, which claims OmniVision will be supplying the CMOS image sensors.

The investment firm, Detwiler Fenton & Co., claims that Apple will begin with 2.5 million next generation iPad units when it launches.  An odd suggestion given that Apple has already sold over 4 million in the most recent quarter.

That said, it would make sense for Apple to include at least one camera on the next version of the iPad.  If they do, it seems more likely that the camera would be of the front-facing variety for FaceTime calls, as opposed to a camera on the back of the device.  A camera on the rear of the iPad, while a nice addition for sure, would make for awkward picture-taking, especially if the size of the iPad does not vary to wildly from its present form.

What do you think?  Is Apple more likely to include one or two cameras on the next version of the iPad?  If you believe only one, do you believe it will be a front-facing camera, or a camera on the backside of the device?

I am thinking that they might release two versions of the second gen… One with just the one front facing camera for face time as this is something that everyone of my friends as well as myself that own the iPhone 4 are very excited about. I think that this will be the base model and then an “upgraded” model that will feature a camera on the back capable of HD video. This would be a simalar set up to the wifi or wifi+ 3G idea now as I can see all second gen models being cabable of both wifi and 3G models. Or this could all just be wishful thinking lol

Does a new iPad have a microphone? I couldn’t find information about this.
And what about 2 cameras i’m sure it will be.

I think the next iteration of the iPad must have 2 cameras. This is just to satisfy everyone. Someone needs a front-facing camera for chatting, and someone wants to take shots with a rear one. So it’s better to include both of them, so that no one could complain.

I don’t realy care about a camera. I have the new iPod touch and I don’t use the front facing camera and the backfacing one rarely.
I’m just not the photo guy. I love my iPad without the camera. The only thing I might be jealous about is the retina display because I see the difference between the iPod and iPad. The display kicks ass. Might wanna have that uber resolution on my iPad too but I wont buy a new iPad because of that ;)
