How To Set Up Home Sharing

IMG_0046

Whether you just purchased a brand new iPad 2 or you’re still rocking iPad “Classic” as I am now calling it, you are going to want to set up home sharing.  Home sharing allows you to wirelessly stream music and videos stored on your PC or Mac to your iPad.  It only takes a couple minutes to set up and once done you will wonder how you ever lived without it. Here’s how to set up home sharing in 5 easy steps.

1.  First make sure you have the latest version of iTunes installed on your computer and iOS 4.3 installed on your iPad.  iPad 2 users should have iOS 4.3 installed already.  iPad Classic users will need to update to 4.3.

2.  Open iTunes on your computer and click on the “Advanced” tab and select “Turn On Home Sharing”.

3.  Enter your Apple ID and password to set up home sharing.

4.  On your iPad go into “Settings” and select “iPod”.  Under “Home Sharing” enter your Apple ID and password.

5.  Open up the iPod app on the iPad and select “Library”.  You should now see your computers music library.  Select it and begin streaming your music.  To stream your videos, open up the Videos app and click on the “shared” tab.

That’s it!  Now wasn’t that easy?  Home Sharing is a great way to enjoy your music and videos from anywhere in your home without filling up your iPads memory.

Now what would rock fore sure is if Home sharing worked outside your home. So that when I’M at the universities wifi I could still access my Macs data at home that is running 24/7 anyway :P
    Maybe that’s the next step?
